  • USMMA Show Subsidy Award May 2015

rumoured moments (1 of 1)-1 rumoured moments (1 of 1)-5-1 The award went to Sue Paris Current in Virginia!   Congratulations Sue!

The award is a MEMBER BENEFIT.  A subsidy is available for members who apply to offset the costs of the show, event or expo where the member will promote the Marchador breed on behalf of themselves and the USMMA.  $250 per show entry is available.  The show subsidy is managed by Board Member Laurie Klassen.  Please download and submit this form to apply.  USMMA Sponsorship Grant 2015

Sue presented her Marchador gelding Folego do Lucero at the 5th Annual Spring Equine Extravaganza on April 12, 2015 held in Front Royal, VA.

Sue writes “Folego was a superstar!  Not one person I met up there had heard of a Mangalarga Marchador, so I feel that my mission was accomplished in introducing our breed to many folks who now know what a MM is!

I put together a script for the announcer and rode a pattern (of sorts!) to music by Enrique Inglesias, had a good latin beat and suited Folego.  I rode in the morning, then rode in the Parade of Breeds then did another musical ride after lunch.  We received lots of positive comments 🙂  Folego loved the attention from everyone!

I had gone by myself, so the difficult part was setting up the table and having to tack up and un-tack and be at the booth, so I was pretty exhausted later in the day especially after a 5 hour drive home – but it was worth it….it was all good 🙂

In general, I think it was a successful outing.  I heard that the attendance was down from the previous year, so that was a little disappointing.  However, there are a lot of people in Northern Virginia who now know what a Marchador is that didn’t last week!!”

For her efforts, Sue received a check to cover all the show expenses and shipping of some Marchador show materials.  Well done!

  • President’s Letter – Exciting Events in September and October!

    Dear USMMA Members.

It has been an exciting time being on the front line as the USMMA representative, to the ABCCMM and APEX in their endeavors’ to increase the Mangalarga Marchador herd size in North America.

Our small USMMA member group that attended this years 33rd Mangalarga Marchador  Nacional Expo 2014, was greeted by open arms by all in Brazil.  Magdi Shaat, President ABCCMM, was a gracious host taking time out from his busy Expo schedule to greet and recognize each and everyone of us.  He was not alone in his hospitality.  The other ABCCMM members, Fabio Vilela, Ricardo Xavier, Jose Leandro, Alexandre Junqueira, were there from day one to make our trip unforgettable.  The Brazilian hospitality continued in each and every person we met at the Expo.  The same at every farm we visited. Everyone was very gracious and kind to us, being very unselfish in letting members ride their prized horses, showing their pride towards the Mangalarga Marchador breed and their ancestry.

APEX and ABCCMM has made a large investment with the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) in North America and also in Brazil to promote the Mangalarga Marchador as the Brazil Saddle Horse.  The PBR will feature the Mangalarga Marchador at two events this year.  First one at Nashville, Tenn. on Sept. 5-6 and the 2nd at the PBR finals in Las Vegas, NV. Oct. 22-26.  The program in Nashville will include a introduction during the Sept. 5 event with a Brazilian rider and one Mangalarga Marchador horse as the MC describes the Brazil Saddle Horse qualities.  Sept. 6 event we will have a demo arena at the Bridgestone arena containing two horses that are available to interested attendees to ride or just become familiar with the Mangalarga Marchador temperament.  The Sept. 6 event will also include a mid-matinee performance as the previous day. For the members that have volunteered their horses for either or both events, the horses have been identified to the members in Brazil for their choice of selection  and none have been officially selected at this time.  There are two Brazilian trainers to arrive Aug. 28 to Aline Greene’s farm, to start their horse evaluation for the Nashville event.  I will keep all members that have submitted their horses for Nashville informed as the trainers progress in their selection.

On the same note, I would like to further extend an invitation to all members that might be interested in assisting at the events to help at the demo arena relaying to other interested persons why we love these horses.  APEX has given us a limited amount of tickets to the PBR events and these will be given out to the selected horses owners and remainder (first come first served) to members assisting with the demo booth.  I already have a few volunteers for the events but it would be nice to have a good showing from the USMMA members in support to APEX and ABCCMM Brazil Saddle Horse Promotion.

More information will come later for the Las Vegas event including horse selection and logistics for the event.

I have attached a video link to the 33rdExpo Nacional that has been aired on Brazil T That acknowledged the USMMA members from North America attending the event.

    Best Regards,

    Rick Schatz

  • Marchadors for the PBR! Sept & Oct 2014

    The Brazilian Saddle Horse Project

The Brazilian associations ABCCMM/APEX have funded two PBR (Professional Bull Riding) events in North America in 2014. The Marchador will be featured at these two venues – live and via television coverage.

    September 5 & 6, Nashville, TN

    October 22-26, Las Vegas Nevada.

The USMMA will be working with them to help make the events a success for promotion of the Marchador breed. We are looking for 5-6 Marchadors to represent the breed at both events. They can be the same group of horses or 2 different groups.

Please read the attached PDF to learn more and to fill out the forms required to have your Marchador represent the breed at the event!   Click on PBR SELECT HORSES.

    braziltrip2014

July 26 – August 3rd  See document for details!

You will participate in the biggest event of the breed, the Mangalarga Marchador National Exposition in Belo Horizonte.   During a ten day period, over 1500 horses, which are already champions in other expositions in different parts of the country, will be presented and judged. The finale is to name of the best of the best – the CHAMPION of each MARCHA, each age group, each sex and then the CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS!   And YOU will be able to ride some of the horses there. Or you just observe the Marcha of the beautiful horses, make your own evaluation and guess which one will be the winner. Another thrilling part of the program is your participation in auctions, held at night, when some of the best horses are offered for sale to excited bidders.  Other activities will be planned during these days to meet the Marchador breeders at the show, visit some close-by farms and also some other tourist attractions – shopping and history.

  • 2011 Complete Horse Competition

by Lynn Kelley, SW Future Foal @ Summerwind Marchadors

Caboclo da Pidade and Lynn Kelley holding the Lucas Guerra Complete Horse Award

I was puzzled when a package arrived at my front door that was not expected.  Inside was a wonderful surprize – the first Lucas Guerra plaque awarded to the winner of the USMMA’s complete horse competition!   I had won with my Marchador, Caboclo da Piedade.

If you’re hearing about this contest for the first time, there is more news on our website about it.  Find it all at  http://t3k.315.mywebsitetransfer.com/shows-and-events/complete-horse-test/.  There are instructions, rules, a setup guide and a video that shows the obstacles in the competition.

2011 was the first year for us to adopt this Brasilian tradition sometimes also called “PROVAS FUNCIONAL, functional test).  The USMMA runs it as a VIDEO submittal competition.  You film yourself and your horse running the course and a panel of 3 judges evaluates the video for penalties and time.

YOUTUBE VIDEO of the Complete Horse Test  http://youtu.be/asM856jn60g

I found the gate to be the hardest obstacle for me. John built our gate and a friend made our poles!

The Complete Horse Competition is designed for easy set-up in your own back yard.  That’s what me and Caboclo did.

This is an on-going competition so be sure to try it out with your Marchadors in 2012!   Connie Claire is planning to add a Complete Horse course and test to the 2012 MM clinic in FL so we know there will be more entries in 2012!  Any Marchador with any rider is eligible to enter and you can enter as often as you want as you improve!

    Have fun!

Sandy on Amora (Aliane Fazenda Zouga) & Bill on Andante (Apple Pie de Miami)

Sandy and I participated in the 2011 National Cavalry Competition and Bivouac in September. It was held at historic Fort Reno, just west of Oklahoma City, OK. Until its closure as an active Army post, it was one of three Remount Centers that provided many thousands of horses and mules to the Cavalry, Artillery, and Quartermaster branches. During WWII it was also a large Prisoner of War camp.

We enjoyed some success at this year’s Competition. Sandy placed 2nd of 18 in Level 3 (Novice) Military Horsemanship.  Bill  placed 3rd of 16 in Level 2 Military Horsemanship (Intermediate).  We also participated in other events, including Mounted Pistol and Mounted Saber, with less success but lots of fun. On Saturday we held a formal parade and ceremony. We mustered 70+ mounted soldiers and also had two artillery pieces from Ft. Sill, OK (about 120 south of Ft. Reno). We were very pleased that Andante and Amora stood quietly even for the firing of the 75mm gun!

Next year’s event will be at Ft. Riley, KS (about 100 miles west of Kansas City, MO).
