Batuque de Miami, US born Mangalarga Marchador stallion made the June cover of the Horseman’s News!
This perfect cover photo with the Brazilian flag and American flag, immediately conveys that Marchadors are a Brazilian breed here! The pdf file of the article is attached below. The article was written to go with the photo and explains the registration relationship with ABCCMM and why these Brazilian inspections are important and undertaken by many North American breeders.
Daniel Pulliam, riding Batuque de Miami at the SCHC Labor Day Show, is a new USMMA member and breeder with Rancho Linda Marchadores. He orchestrated an even bigger Marchador showing with many other MM owners and breeders in December’s Jingle Bell Show. Their next event will be in July. All are welcome to show, help or just enjoy watching.

I am very excited to take on the Show and Events Awards position and get more involved in the association. I have some new ideas to get this program running efficiently and offer more to our members. I would love to get your ideas and feedback as well.
About the Show and Event “Kits” These kits are designed to help you set up a display or booth at a horse show, expo or any local or barn event to attract attention and draw people in.
We have utilized the USMMA show kit in Arizona and in California and they have been helpful in getting information out about our amazing breed!
The basic display kit would have some basic advertising info, banners, and MM merchandise that can be displayed on a table and given out at shows and events. We would like to offer a kit to each of our regions if they are interested. These kits would be given to each of the Regional Directors who are in charge of organizing events, and assisting those in their region who are hosting events. I would also ask that they keep track of inventory and keep me updated with what they have so that I can replenish the handout materials. I will send the initial inventory sheet of items in your kit.
The larger pop-up banners can be added to each regional kit as requested by the Regional Director for a specific show opportunity.
What I need from you: I need your helping filling these kits! We want to represent everyone equally at these shows. As we all know it has been a large group effort to get the Marchador breed more recognition and make it known by many. We still have a long way to go. I would like to ask that you send flyers, pamphlets, or business cards, that best showcase your barn, breeding program, training program and MM horses. I just ask that it be professional and that you can send a substantial amount. We currently have 6 regions so I would like to have enough to send out at least 100 or more per kit.
Please send your handout materials to the USMMA office whose address is at the bottom of this email on or before May 1st if possible.
How do I get a kit for my region: Step 1. Reach out to your Regional Director to request a Show Kit. Your Director will ask about the event(s) you plan on having or hosting.
Step 2: If your Regional Director does not already have a Show Kit they can reach out to me directly to receive one. If there is already one in your region then arrangements can be made for shipping or delivery. The USMMA will pay for shipping one-way. A refundable deposit of $50 paid to the USMMA will be required to receive a basic Show Kit for a show or event. This is to ensure that they are not lost or damaged. In the case, that a Show Kit is not returned the deposit can help to fund a new kit.
Step 3: Please return your Show Kit back to your Regional Director. You are responsible for the shipping cost on return. Any Show Kit that is not returned will not receive their deposit back. If, for any reason, you are having difficulty receiving a Show Kit or getting in contact with your Regional Director you can reach out to me personally.
I am hoping these show kit displays will help represent our Marchador breed all over the country! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out!
There may be some changes coming up in Regions and Directors with people and horses moving! But here is the current list of Directors:

Congratulations to all of the USMAA members and friends who came to support the Mangalarga Marchador horses showing in the 21st Jingle Bell Show, produced by the Southern California Horsemans Council in Del Mar, CA on Dec 9-12, 2021!
A variety of breeds were represented in their respective breed classes, American Saddlebreds, Morgans, Friesians, Andalusians, Mangalarga Marchadors, Hackney Ponies, Trotters, and in Other Gaited Breeds including Icelandic Pony. The Del Mar Fairgrounds was full of beautiful horses with each barn being decorated with the Holiday theme including those simultaneously competing in the English Jumper Show.
The event was a huge success in many ways! It brought breeders and owners together to get more acquainted and showcased the breed to the public. Having the MM breed participate in specific Marchador breed classes and as well as participating in OGB (Other Gaited Breed) classes made a significant impact for generating breed awareness. The show attendees watching the classes were truly intrigued and many came by the barn to see the horses. Show judge Tamme Conatser, from Nicholasville, KY expressed her warm welcome to the breed entries and the Mangalarga Marchadors were thanked as a class sponsor.
Marchador breed group organizer Daniel Pulliam was newly introduced to this breed in March by Rancho Linda Marchadores. He deserves special recognition for his show vision, his ability to unify enough Marchador owners to participate in a very complex event and the way he executed the very professional breed barn presentation for everyone’s benefit. He worked with the SCHC show owners to add a number of extra OGB classes in order to show the Mangalarga Marchador breed as much as possible. As he states, “the goal was to present Marchadors in a ‘Big Way’ so that no one could miss them!”
Over the four days, Marchadors were in a total of 21 classes including two OGB Parade classes and the OGB Champagne class, which provided the perfect opportunity to showcase their unique gait. All of the Marchadors were amazing in classes held under the huge covered arena in a ring with giant Christmas décor, lights, noise, despite having little to no previous show experience! All were winners by participating! Between all of the wonderful attributes of this breed and skilled riders and handlers, each class was a success!
As this event was a circuit rated breed show with sponsored classes for Marchador horses, everyone was proud to have 18 horses fill the show barn to compete in 3 sponsored classes that were dedicated to Mangalarga Marchador In Hand so all of the horses could participate as well as compete in 18 “Other Gaited Breeds”(OGB) classes including Open Halter, Horse In Hand, English/Western 2 Gait and English/Western 3 gait categories. The 2 Gait classes were shown in gait of choice – walk, gait (Picada or Batida) and 3 Gait classes included the canter.
Participating MM horses:
(4) Stallions: Delmug Dos Bugres, Talisma’s Apache Do High Country, Avatar De Los Cielos, Jedi-Knight Do Summerwind.
(2) Geldings: Brioso Do InMotion, Eduardo Do MManor
(12) Mares: Cheyenne Do High Country, Sonadora De Los Cielos, Querida De Los Cielos, Aria De Los Cielos, Allegria De Los Cielos, Bella Duquesa Do MManor, Brava Fazenda Zouga, Janela Da Gameleira Soberana, Ariana Do Rancho Linda Marchadores, Gigi Do Rancho Linda Marchadores, E’Divalia Do Rancho Linda Marchadores, LaponiaTrimonte.
Attending USMAA members were Alessandra Deerinck, Elizabeth Sims, Dinusha Perera, Jake Martinez & Teresa Longo, Grady Willard, Randy Gassett, Jason Lambrose, Aline & Brisa Greene, Ronald Knaack, Linda Holst, Daniel Pulliam and Michele Ferragut. Everyone helped out. It was “all hands on deck”! Both Randy Gassett who showed Sonadora De Los Cielos and Deedee Davies who showed Peggy Grower’s Brioso InMotion from FL were volunteers.
Two dedicated center ringside boxes with daily snack baskets, sponsored by Summerwind Marchadors, provided the group with excellent viewing and united group support for the riders and horses. It was so much fun to see this many Marchador horses together!

Breeders present at the show were Rancho Linda Marchadores (CA), Rancho De Los Cielos (CA), High Country Marchadors (CO), Silver Stables Marchadors (AZ), Saint Horse Marchadores (SC) and C&C Bellandi Mangalarga Marchador (FL).
A special thank you goes to Claudia Bellandi for her generous support by sending her imported batida stallion Delmug Dos Bugres from Florida to CA and spending two weeks prior to the show in CA preparing her stallion and Rancho Linda Marchador mares for their classes. She and Delmug were super stars in 14 classes. A true eye-catching highlight was the Parade Championship class that “wowed” the audience when “Santa Claus” (Claudia) arrived on a Marchador in full costume from head to tail!
All show participants were happy to have an imported champion stallion as a celebrity representative from Brazil place first in 13 of the 14 classes he was in. (Avatar De Los Cielos placed 1st in Mangalarga Marchador In Hand Stallions/geldings and Delmug was 2nd.) Jedi-Knight Do Summerwind followed Delmug with 2nd place in OGB Eng/Western 2 Gait Stallions/Geldings and OGB Eng/Western 2 Gait Open that included mares. The top two placing mares with 15 classes each were Ariana Do Rancho Linda Marchadores and Gigi Do Rancho Linda Marchadores. (The stallions placed higher than the mares in joint classes.)
Building on this momentum, the next big show in the SCHC circuit will be the Santa Barbara National Show in early July 2022. Plans are underway for Marchadors to be represented by Rancho De Los Cielos, Rancho Linda Marchadores, High Country Marchadors along with C&C Bellandi who will ship 3 stallions and hopes to sponsor an ABCCMM judge from Brazil to judge the Marchador breed classes. All MM owners are enthusiastically encouraged to participate in this show, particularly from California, Arizona and Montana. Please contact Daniel Pulliam dpulliam86@gmail.com or call 575.613.5148 for more show information.

WHEN: JANUARY 24 – 26, 2020 PLACE: 17 RANCH, SCOTTSDALE AZ 85262 WHAT: FIRST ANNUAL SCOTTSDALE SHOW WHO: We have just started planning this event!. I am chairing the committee and asking members to join that committee now. We will work on the details and get a memo out to you before Thanksgiving with more. DETAILS: We will be having trail rides into the desert and ABCCMM Sport Competitions. Here are the initial thoughts of what will be happening!
We have reserved an covered arena and 3 one-bedroom guest casitas for the event. An additional apartment is also available at this time, but will rent soon. There are horse facilities there for a limited number of horses but lots of facilities close by if we need more. There are no trailer hook-ups at that facility, but there are some nearby. We also have several members in the Scottsdale area and hopefully some of them also will offer accommodations. There are a LOT of hotels and other options in this area as well.
Arizona has about 20 Mangalarga Marchadors here and that number swells with winter visitors from Canada. It may also be that there will be MM horses you can use here available if you’d like to learn and ride, but can’t bring a horse. That will be determined.
Show entry fees, audit fees and casita rental fees will be charged. While the USMMA underwrites each event we hold, the fees will help fund the awards we give, the food and refreshments for our participants. Only USMMA members are allowed to ride because of insurance, but we will invite friends, family and neighbors to come to watch! It will be a fun event! Dr. George Vi
lar, our ABCCMM inspector, is in Brazil this month training to be a judge for the competition. Lynn Kelley has the Sport Classes Rules and Regulations (working equitation / functional test, barrels, pole bending etc) being translated in Brazil. We will get those out as soon as possible to all members.
Thursday January 23 – available for arrival and check in
Friday January 24 – am trail ride for those who come early.
January 24 – noon lunch, check in and pm training sessions on the competition
Saturday January 25 – am and pm, MM classes yet to be selected, pm pool party
Sunday January 26 – OPTIONAL DAY You can leave or stay for a trail ride and/or MM barn tours in the morning. Checkout is 11 am. pm ABCCMM inspection.
PLANNING:
Scottsdale is close to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and is also serviced by Mesa Airport and Scottsdale Airport. It is a major hub so airline tickets should be reasonable. Scottsdale is jumping during the winter months. For information about what else is going on, you can visit https://www.experiencescottsdale.com/
We hope you will be able to make this event! We will fill in the details in just a few weeks. We would like to have more events in 2020 as well so if you have an idea for your area, please contact me.
In January, Randy Conilogue, our USMMA Registrar, volunteered for an important project. To create a video show that would run on a large screen TV during the Mane Event the first weekend in April 2018. He created 14 videos. It was a great success! Many USMMA members contributed new photos and we also used photos that we had in our archives and website from years past.
The result of this effort is also available for running on an iPad or computer by contacting Randy. You can use the videos to showcase the breed at a booth or presentation. At the Mane Event, we ran a continuous loop so there was always a beautiful Mangalarga Marchador on the screen. It attracted a lot of attention and viewers.
Take a look! We have created a youtube account and uploaded the videos there. There are 14 videos with the photos grouped into categories. We are also creating a playlist of other videos from Brazil that showcase the beauty and movement of the MM breed.
If you would like to share your newest photos, or if you have not yet contributed to our collection, here are the guidelines for submission:
Sending us photos for the USMMA website or videos:
Horses need to be registered with the USMMA or the ABCCMM to be included in the video.
Photos need to be high resolution and JPEG files. That is determined by the number of pixels and the size of the file. JPEG files should be at least 1M if they are truly high resolution.
Photos should be labeled with the following information: USMMA Registration Name of the Marchador, Owner Name, Farm Name (if applicable), State or Province and Photographer credit (if applicable.)
We would prefer photos to be a horizontal format. Showing vertical photos on a large screen TV is not as attractive. We would like to fill the screen.
We would like to get photos of EVERY single Marchador in North America to be showcased in our video. However, the video producer, Randy Conilogue will decide if your submission can be used. We will make every effort to work with you to help you create or find photos of your horse that we can use.
Please email photos to drrlc@aol.com. If you have a large number of files, you can use dropbox.comand just email the link to your photos to Randy.
OPTIONAL – you can also send us video, but most video is not high enough quality to air on a large screen.
Don’t miss the year’s largest Breyer fan festival July 22-24, 2016. Bring on the feathers and start practicing your samba for the 27th annual BreyerFest at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.
BreyerFest is the intersection of the real horse world and the model horse hobby – with spectacular equine entertainment, the largest model horse show in the country, the horses that inspired the models and thousands of families and fans for three fabulous days.
The 2016 Celebration horse is Imperador das Aguas, a Mangalarga Marchador stallion imported from Brazil. There is a Breyer model of him made exclusively for the show! Imperador is owned by Claudia Bellandi of C&C Bellandi Horse Racing, Ocala FL. Claudia is taking 3 Marchadors to the event in July where people can meet the Marchador, have a photo op, and see them in the show.
The USMMA will have a display booth there. We could use additional volunteers to man the booth and answer questions. If you have an interest in volunteering to man the booth, please contact Lynn Kelley, lynnkelley@me.com.
If you can’t come, but have a banner, business cards or other handout that you would like displayed or distributed, please send your materials before July 4th, to
The last $250 award for the year (Sept 1 – Aug 31) went to Dana Johnsen in BC, Canada! Congratulations, Dana!
Dana received the award for planning and hosting Kate Barcelos, ABCCMM inspector and trainer for the first Canadian inspection. On August 15, 2015, Dana will host an event using the inspection and Kate to bring potential MM lovers to an arena where they can meet and learn about the breed. The grant will be applied for expenses in renting the facility to host the demonstrations.
This is the second promotional event for Dana this year. Here’s her write-up of her first competition with her mare. “Valentim Beijo and I attended the annual Interior Gaited horse show in Armstrong BC in June. Her presence was curiously anticipated by many of the attendees and organizers. We entered 10 classes and walked away with 8 ribbons including 1 first place, a few seconds and thirds and a couple fourth placings. This was uncharted territory for Valentime, as she had never been in a group of horses under saddle and never been inside an enclosed arena. After the her initial inclination to exit stage left, she listened to my calming cues well and carried on. She was the first Marchador to enter a show in B.C. There was lots of interest in her conformation and way of going, with many spectators questioning if she was indeed gaiting. This was accentuated by the fact she was sharing most classes with Peruvian pasos and Tennessee walking horses, who were obvious in their gaiting ways. (no photos available) After the show, Valentim received praise from many on her behaviour and cute looks! With the intense hot weather we have been having her in the South Okanagan, one of my favourite things to do is take the horses to the lake for some reed grazing and cooling off. I have found that Marchadors really enjoy the water quite a bit. (photos attached)”
