USMMA Website Updates
President’s Letter USMMA
WikiHorseWorld
Announcing
WikiHorseWorld Pedigree System! The USMMA has adopted Wiki as its official pedigree and
registration system replacing HorseManager.com whose registration program had stopped functioning several months ago with no fix in sight.WikiHorseWorld’s pedigree system is state-of-the-art and features interactive pedigree charts and unlimited
photos, videos, and details for every horse. WikiHorseWorld software was provided at no cost to the USMMA. However, the trade-off is that they will post ads on these pedigree pages. We are still in development with them, but it is working today. The pedigree system is embedded into our website by clicking VIEW PEDIGREE under the REGISTRY tab.
www.namarchador.org/registry/view-pedigree
On this screen will be a listing of all the horses in our database, including those in the background of our horses.
On the right-hand side is a box where you can search by the name of the horse to get a specific horse, or by the gender to sell all stallions, or by association to see only USMMA horses etc. We will be customizing this box over time so the selection
criteria fits better and we don’t see all breeds and all associations in the selection menu. Now search for a horse that is in our database: Bossa Nova de Miami is one that shows what information is possible about your horse.
You should be able
to view Bossa Nova’s horse details, view the pedigree or print the pedigree. You can also see her offspring
listed as well. You can click on any horse in the pedigree to get more information (whatever we have)
on that horse.
Because HorseManager
has stopped support, we will have to re-enter all of our horses. We are starting immediately
beginning with horses with the letter A. While we have only 200+ Mangalarga Marchadors in North America, their pedigree information makes this a task of entering over 1200 horses! Lynn Kelley, our current Registrar, will be entering all history over the next three months. Please be patient – all the information on your horse may not be there right away. Check back often to see the progress!Currently, WikiHorseWorld only allows the administrator (registrar) to enter data, but they are working on opening the system so that when you log in to namarchador.org, you will be able to add photos and videos on your horses. For the initial loading of the database, we will upload at least one photo from horsemanager.com. Once the feature is available that allows the owner to add or change photos, you can update your horse’s record.
The registration process remains the same. This system just replaces horsemanager.com. The Registrar will
continue to enter the pedigree information, registration number and DNA.Plans for the future include adding a Classified Ads section that works with this pedigree system so that you may list horses for sale and perhaps more horse-related items for sale.
Member Login
This feature is fixed!
You can view the entire NAMARCHADOR website – ALL FEATURES, except for member directory WITHOUT signing in. There are over 150 posts (our historical newsletters, press releases, the Importer articles and more) that have been moved from the old website usmarchador.com.
However, you do need to LOGIN to ADD a post and to VIEW our USMMA member directory. On the MEMBER FORUM tab, you will see a different listing on the right-hand column. It lists all post categories, recent posts and posts by date. The largest typeface means that category has the most posts. You can use this right-hand column to search for posts you are interested in. This column should appear also on the MEMBER POSTS page, but does not. That still needs to be fixed. To add a post or comment on a post, here is all you need to do:
On the website, under MEMBER FORUM, click on MEMBER POSTS. All of the posts will appear and in the top right corner, there is a new menu bar.
New Post Manage Comments Dashboard Profile Logout
Click on New Post. New posts allow you to type in whatever you want. In addition, you can attach pdf files, photos or videos into your posts. You can also add comments to other posts that are entered.
If you want to add posts and have signed up on the website, but no longer remember your sign-on or password, please contact Lynn Kelley at kelleyaz@rnsmte.com until we announce a new website administrator. And, if you have never signed in and need help, contact Lynn as well.
The member directory lists all of our members. If you wish to be marked PRIVATE, so that your information cannot be viewed by other members, please let me know. Currently, all records are public. If you see a mistake in your information, you must also still contact us. Right now, changing your PROFILE information does not change the member directory.

President’s Letter to Members
Bom Dia!
There were 5 USMMA members (John Kelley, Lynn Kelley, Ellen Farmer, Aline Greene and Katie Baily) who traveled to Brasil to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the ABCCMM National Show in July! We all had a fabulous time at the show and also traveling around Brazil. Their hospitality was wonderful and of course, once again, we learned a lot!
I would encourage every member to travel there!
This year the ABCCMM also invited members of the media from North America and from Europe to obtain more publicity and widespread recognition for the Mangalarga Marchador. From North America. RFD-TV and The Horse Show with Rick Lamb attended for several days and filmed extensively. Jane Switzer, from the Horse Show attended the whole program of over 10 days! All of them are very enthusiastic about telling others about the MM breed. Lynn Kelley will also be writing press releases and magazine articles from the trip. As the shows or articles come out, we will share them with you.
ABCCMM Presidente Magdi Shaat is very interested in the international presence of the Mangalarga Marchador and we met two new MM associations from Italy and Argentina.
While we were there, we had several meetings with the ABCCMM, the Brazilian association, and also discussions with the EAMM, the European association about ideas and plans that would help us achieve our goals of promoting this magnificent breed. Here are some of the ideas we discussed:
1. Pat Parelli, probably the most well-known trainer around the world, to perform at the next MM National Show. (This year they had Monty Roberts). We will try to set up a meeting with Pat.
2. Frozen semen and frozen embryo exportation. There is only one collection center currently, and the costs are such that only a few breeders will attempt this, but the plans continue to expand in this area.
3. The 2012 USMMA clinic in Ocala FL. The ABCCMM has offered its help and support to make this bigger and better. Watch for more information coming out on this! We’ll send a save-the-date email this month so you can mark off these dates in April.
4. We requested an intern/exchange program where Mangalarga Marchador trainers, riders, vets, college students in equine studies from Brasil could apply and come to the U.S. or Canada for several months or a semester. The ABCCMM asked us to draft a proposal for them to discuss with their board.
5. The ABCCMM would like us to host a Sela de Ouro, a long ride using only Mangalarga Marchadors. We will be talking with the EAMM on how to structure it correctly as they just set their program up last year. Some riders would qualify to ride in Brasil in 2012 in their Sela de Ouro. (They would supply a horse for each rider)
6. Project Vitrine in the U.S. This is now a European program of five Brazilian Mangalarga Marchador stallions donated for 2 years for use in presentations and demonstrations promoting the breed. The ABCCMM will explore this. What they would require from us was not discussed, since we are not sure it will be possible.
All very exciting ideas, but at this point, just ideas that will need a lot of volunteer work to make them reality.
So, the best news is the media coverage we will receive from the event. Our thanks to them for coming to Brazil!
The Mangalarga Marchador – a horse without frontiers! Now it is more true than ever.
Best Regards,
John Kelley

Rick Lamb – The Horse Show
USMMA member Susan Neumann recommended an episode on saddles and saddle fitting for gaited horses. If you can find the video from last week on Rick’s website, it was wonderful. Filmed with horse trainer Larry Whitesell, a gaited horse trainer for many years, it followed along the same lines as our Mangalarga Marchador clinic with Kate Bar in April. He uses dressage and suppling to get a better balanced horse and also a better gait.
”Gaited Horse Saddles”Oklahoma saddlemaker, Doug Ford, shows Rick design considerations for gaited horses. Episode 339 >watch other TV episodes >buy DVD of any TV episode

Facebook Post on Marchadors
Marchador in the mountains
by Theresa Manzella on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 9:23pm

Baluarte Piry, 4 Seasons Marchadores, MT So I’m feeling compelled to tell all my horsey friends about todays adventure….which was chasing cows in the mountains on the Marchador stud. It was such an exhilarating, satisfying experience, I wish everyone I like could do it at least once. This breed is from Brazil and was represented to me as cowy, athletic and gaited. As I was listening and smiling, I was secretly thinking “YA RIGHT lady! Tell me another story. Those 3 attributes don’t exist in the same horse…but it’s your story…tell it the way you want.” TODAY I became a believer. I’ve been training this horse for 6 months and have been really impressed with his mind, trainability and work ethic. He’s ready to show in record time. And I’ll even admit that the gaiting is fun. Today, Mr Marchador proved to me you CAN have it all in one horse and I became a BIG fan. At the risk of sounding like a horse snob, I’m not an easy sell. He went anywhere I pointed him, whether it was straight up on shale, or straight down, or chasing cows off a side hill on the run, this guy new were his feet were at all times and gave me total confidence that there wasn’t any place those cows could go in the Rocky Mountains that we couldn’t go too. I know we all adore our cow bred, quarter horses and I bet many of you reading this are skeptics just like I was…but this bred deserves consideration from anyone who appreciates a golden mind, a huge heart and a ton of try. And the smooth ride…flying across the flat at an amazing clip, without an ache or a pain anywhere is a BIG Bonus! You can learn more about them at 4 Seasons Marchadors. There is only 150 of them in the county. If you ever get the chance to ride one, don’t pass up the opportunity. Cool ponies. Oh ya…I confessed my initial doubts to my friend/client, Lori Silcher, and she’s forgiven me. She’s getting used to having to make believers out of people.
