  • Election Results Announcement

    Dear Members,

We did undertake the task of finding an independent third party to validate the counts, as requested by some USMMA members. Part of our search process included contacting a non-profit law firm. They advised that there is nothing in the AZ statutes that requires this action to be taken and they also advised that hiring someone would likely be costly.  Therefore, the current USMMA Officers have decided not to delay, and to announce the election results. We don’t believe spending USMMA funds on hiring lawyers and accountants to review a computerized election process makes sense.

This computerized platform is considered to be an impartial third party.  We would rather spend our time and resources supporting our members. The computer program tabulated the votes automatically. We trust the integrity of our current President and Registrar to fairly review the voting and determine the election results.

It is time for all candidates to put aside their differences and focus on what brought us together in the first place, the Mangalarga Marchador. There is plenty of opportunity for anyone unhappy with the results to volunteer to make our association better. Let’s all look forward!

    Sincerely,

    Cathy Pierce USMMA President cpierce@stx.rr.com

  • Jeff Bosley Resigns

We have been informed yesterday that our President of 7 years, Jeff Bosley has resigned his Presidency effective immediately.   It is sad and disappointing news. He has served us so well for so many years.   We thank him for his dedication and service to our organization.

Jeff felt ” I am unable to continue as President as I have come to believe my goals for the USMMA are no longer aligned with other BOD (Board of Directors) members or BOD candidates.”

Cathy Pierce, our USMMA Vice President, assumes the position of President for the remainder of his term ending December 31, 2022.   Cathy will carry on with the election planning.  We will be posting the questions we have asked the candidates to answer.  She is dedicated to having a fair and valid election still planned right now for October.

  • USMMA Videos out on Youtube

    Dear USMMA Members:

In January, Randy Conilogue, our USMMA Registrar, volunteered for an important project.   To create a video show that would run on a large screen TV during the Mane Event the first weekend in April 2018.   He created 14 videos.    It was a great success!  Many USMMA members contributed new photos and we also used photos that we had in our archives and website from years past.

The result of this effort is also available for running on an iPad or computer by contacting Randy.    You can use the videos to showcase the breed at a booth or presentation.   At the Mane Event, we ran a continuous loop so there was always a beautiful Mangalarga Marchador on the screen.   It attracted a lot of attention and viewers.

Take a look!    We have created a youtube account and uploaded the videos there.   There are 14 videos with the photos grouped into categories.   We are also creating a playlist of other videos from Brazil that showcase the beauty and movement of the MM breed.
Thank you Randy, for such a great job.

    Jeff Bosley
    USMMA President

    p.s.
If you would like to share your newest photos, or if you have not yet contributed to our collection, here are the guidelines for submission:

Sending us photos for the USMMA website or videos:

    1. Horses need to be registered with the USMMA or the ABCCMM to be included in the video.

    2. Photos need to be high resolution and JPEG files. That is determined by the number of pixels and the size of the file. JPEG files should be at least 1M if they are truly high resolution.

    3. Photos should be labeled with the following information: USMMA Registration Name of the Marchador, Owner Name, Farm Name (if applicable), State or Province and Photographer credit (if applicable.)

    4. We would prefer photos to be a horizontal format. Showing vertical photos on a large screen TV is not as attractive. We would like to fill the screen.

    5. We would like to get photos of EVERY single Marchador in North America to be showcased in our video. However, the video producer, Randy Conilogue will decide if your submission can be used. We will make every effort to work with you to help you create or find photos of your horse that we can use.

    6. Please email photos to drrlc@aol.com. If you have a large number of files, you can use dropbox.com and just email the link to your photos to Randy.

    7. OPTIONAL – you can also send us video, but most video is not high enough quality to air on a large screen.

  • Tia Nelson Elected USMMA Secretary

The USMMA special election for Secretary was concluded this week.   Thank you for participating and voting!

We had 2 members who volunteered and the voting was very close.   I am happy to announce that Dr. Tia Nelson, DVM was elected as Secretary and will start immediately!   Congratulations Tia!

Our second candidate Dinusha Perera has offered to serve as well on a sub-committee or project.   We are extremely fortunate to have great members who volunteer to work together to spread the word about the Mangalarga Marchador!

    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    Jeff Bosley

  • USMMA Board Elected

The USMMA elections for the Board of Directors 2018-2022 were concluded in December.   Thank you all for voting.  Following this letter from the President are the results of the election, the USMMA Board Members and their emails.

    Dear USMMA members,

We are currently at 94 annual or lifetime members.   We believe it is the first time we have passed the 90 mark and would like to shoot for over 100 members in 2018!
We have $10,000 in our bank account – holding steady each year.   Our annual budget is $6,000 – $8,000 depending on the events and promotions planned for the year.   Every year, our operating budget goes to funding the website, registration supplies, mailing and the show subsidy awards for members ($250 each).   Additionally, we like to support horse expositions and events in each region with a USMMA booth and materials.    Last year, we funded re-creation of our booth show kit with banners and brochures.   This “show kit”  is available to ship to your next MM event.   We missed the mark in 2017 when Equitana Open Air – October 2017,  the event to be our annual USMMA event was canceled on short notice.    We achieved other goals and survived other losses, replacing 2 board members and naming a new USMMA registrar, Randy Conilogue.

One of my goals as President was to encourage us to work together more as a team and to have fun with our Marchador horses.   We all want to succeed – whether it be one owner, one horse, or a breeding barn.   Getting press and making news is a good thing for the Marchador breed.   Everyone benefits by the name recognition and exposure.
We are in a strong position to continue our path to success.     It is our volunteers that make good things happen!

Please meet your newly elected Board of Directors for 2018!

    Best regards,
    Jeff Bosley

  • Announcement – New USMMA Registrar

    September 15th, 2017

    To all USMMA members:

Megan Fallwell, the USMMA Registrar for many years, has stepped down because of time commitments. We have another USMMA member who has volunteered to take over this critical position.  Our website and the UC Davis genetics lab materials have been updated accordingly.

We are looking to train an associate Registrar as well as one of our goals for 2018 is to be at least 2 deep in every position.   If you are interested in learning more and volunteering to learn our registration process, please contact me for more information.

Below is some information about Randy.   We are fortunate that Randy is a computer whiz as our on-line pedigree database,  powered by WIKIHORSE has decided to go off-line unexpectedly and without warning recently.     Randy is working on creating our own system as he learns the registry position   Our data integrity and reporting will improve immensely by the time we are done.     We still have our USMMA pedigree database but not on-line.   So, for a temporary on-line solution,  we are also working to update http://horsemanager.com from our registry database information for pedigree look-up capability.

Randy’s email is drrlc@aol.com     Contact him to report changes in your horse’s gender, color, or to transfer the registration paper to a new owner.   For new foal reporting, we do have a new form on the USMMA website.   http://t3k.315.mywebsitetransfer.com/new-foal-registration-form/

Because WIKIHORSE disappeared, we did lose a lot of the photos you have sent in of your horses.   We would love to get new photos too.

Please welcome Randy into his new role.   Thank you Megan for your service.   And thank you Randy for stepping in.

    Regards,

    Jeff Bosley, USMMA President

    About Randy:

    Randy Conilogue, PhD EE, retired

Randy was born and raised in the central California valley.   Attending UCLA’s Electrical Engineering School, Randy Completed his BS, MS, and PhD degrees with a primary focus on Semiconductor Physics. While working on his Masters degree, he hired into Hughes Aircraft as a summer hire, eventually becoming a fellowship employee, and thereafter continued to work for Hughes and its successive companies, Hughes Electronics and Raytheon. Randy worked on airborne radars, missile seekers, GPS, and other defense systems.

While at UCLA, Randy met his future wife Karen Livesay,  (though he did not not know at the time) through friends in the Greek system. They did not see each other for many years after college and later reconnected, and have been married over 35 years.  He and Karen fostered two boys for 11 years.

In 1997 Randy and Karen decided to move to Sedona AZ.   Randy retired from Raytheon in 2011.  After retirement, and Randy and Karen started to travel around to world to bucket list places such as London, Paris, Africa, Dubai, Rome, Prague, Budapest, Alaska, New Orleans, Pagosa Springs, Istanbul, Greece, Croatia, Brazil, China, Russia, and many others.

Randy and Karen are starting to slow down the foreign travel and enjoy their horses and pets and retirement lifestyle. Randy decided a new challenge and education was in store, by learning to ride, train, and understand Karen’s horses.  He now is riding Karen’s sweet natured Mangalarga Marchadors and telling Karen how she should train them (not the wisest move to a woman who has had horses since childhood). At first Randy couldn’t even say Mangalarga Marchador, instead referring to them as a Maquiladora Margaritas.  He likes the breed for being wonderful athletic companions with strong, exotic and graceful looks.

Randy likes to hike and bike, and volunteers with the local Boy Scouts of America troop in Sedona as an assistant scoutmaster, and the First Robotics Competition in Phoenix Arizona as a robot inspector and Workshop coordinator.

Karen and Randy own 3 Marchador horses :  Flying Oaks Pegasus and Jorge-Ben de Lazy T, MM geldings and Isabelle do Great Lakes, a MM mare.
