  • 2022 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

It’s time for our annual membership drive! We’d like for you to join us in 2022!   Your renewal is critical because it sustains our organization to govern, register, protect and promote the Mangalarga Marchador breed in North America.

Lynn Kelley, USMMA Treasurer, is the membership coordinator with help from your local Regional Director at times.

We will be trying a new approach this year, and would like your feedback – if you think it makes it easier. Lynn will send out a PayPal invoice to the email on record for renewals to every 2021 member. Please take note of the due date on the invoice as all invoices will be dated to reflect the renewal month. You can pay sooner but renewals are due one year from your last payment. You can pay with PayPal, with Zelle or just mail in a check as always.

An alternate and easy was to join is on our website. Go to this webpage:  http://t3k.315.mywebsitetransfer.com/membership/member/ and fill out the on-line form to renew, or print the pdf file to mail the form and your check to us.

The USMMA is the official Mangalarga Marchador organization recognized by the Brazilian MM Association, the ABCCMM.

Our most important member benefit and treasure is our UC DAVIS DNA database and our Mangalarga Marchador Registry. Randy Conilogue is our Registrar.  Other member benefits to highlight are:

    • 15% off at Riding Warehouse – on line store for horse products. The promo code is USMMA.
    • Up tp $250 show subsidy awards for individuals if you wish to show your Marchador or host a MM event, apply for this grant.
    • Up to $250 show event subsidy for Marchador events that qualify and apply.
    • Participation in USMMA Regional and National Member Events.
    • Association Breed Year End Awards for MMs – AERC (endurance) WE (working equitation), and ETS (trail obstacle competitions)

2022 is also an election year for the USMMA Officer positions: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. You must be a member for a specified period of time if you are interested in holding an office.

    Join us today!

    Best regards,

    Jeff Bosley, USMMA President

  • HELP WANTED!

The USMMA could use more volunteers to help or manage in the following areas:

    • Affiliate Associations and Breed Awards
    • Marketing/Advertising
    • Newsletter Editor
    • Newsletter Contributor
    • Membership
    • Member Benefits and Sponsors
    • Website

Here is a snapshot of what might be involved in each area.

Affiliate Associations and Breed Awards – Search for new associations that might benefit or collaborate with the USMMA for common goals. Be the liaison to answer questions or attend affiliate member meetings. Set up new year-end award programs if possible. Present the request for funding or collaboration to the USMMA Board for approval. All funding subject to the USMMA budget for the current year. Currently done now by Lynn Kelley temporarily. Check with Lynn if you have more questions.

Marketing/Advertising – This could be two separate areas with 2 individuals interested or one person trying to dabble in both. Search for opportunities to advertise or promote the Mangalarga Marchador breed in social media groups, magazines, on-line, television, etc. Create or find logo’d M brand items to get more people wearing or displaying the international symbol of the Mangalarga Marchador. Present the request for funding or opportunity found to the USMMA Board for approval. All funding subject to the USMMA budget for the current year.

Newsletter Editor – Create the newsletter for distribution to member groups for USMMA News and Member News. Currently using constant contact for distribution, but other formats can be suggested. Create a list of suggested topics and encourage members and breeders to contribute to that issue. For example: Stallion Issue, Foal issue, Spotlights on new members etc. All newsletters must be approved before distribution or publication on-line. Currently done by Tresa Smith/Lynn Kelley.

Newsletter Contributor – Volunteer to write a regular column for the Newsletter. For example, report on a certain sport, the events coming up or members’ results. Or share your MM photos if you are a photographer!

Membership – Working with the USMMA Treasurer, implement the process to contact all members at renewal time. This usually involves follow-up work on the phone after the initial membership effort is completed. Also try new methods or ideas to reach those Marchador owners who have not joined to encourage them to join our association.

Member Benefits and Sponsors – Seek out opportunities to get more member benefits – like discounts for our members. Or contact organizations and companies that may be interested in contributing to the USMMA in exchange for something we can do for them – like including them on the website or hanging a banner they provide at every USMMA event.

Website – Volunteer to take on the website administration or to be a tester/proofreader for new items. We could use a website savvy person to take on updating and testing our websites. Currently, we have 2 websites – one using WordPress and a new one in development using Shopify. We would like the look and feel to be current and for the site to be easy to use on all devices. Currently being handled by Lynn Kelley/Randy Conilogue for WordPress and Dana Johnsen for Shopify. All current people have indicated they need more help. Please contact them if you want more information about what might be involved and the time commitment.

Please send an email to usmmarchador@gmail.com if you are interested in the above jobs! OR send us an email if you are interested in helping in ANY capacity. We will work together to make it happen. Thank you!

  • 2021 MM BREED AWARD WINNERS

    Congratulations to our winners!

The USMMA sponsored breed awards in 3 sports in 2021.

In Endurance, there are 3 chances to win: Overall High Mileage, High Mileage Limited Distance, High Mileage Endurance (50 miles and over). The winner of all 3 categories was Lauren Virginia Brown riding Flying Oaks Jester.

In Working Equitation, each level is eligible for an award and the winners were:

Level 2 – D.j. Sims Klein riding Caesar do Summerwind

Level 1 – Elizabeth Sims riding Jedi-Knight do Summerwind

In Equine Trail Sports, the winner was Randy Gassett with Nobre do Summerwind, competing in-hand.

The winners receive a ribbon and their choice of an M branded item or a $50 gift card. Great to see! Clap Clap Clap! Congratulations again.

These organizations track results by breed and report them to us. If you have a sport you would like to see added, please contact us so we can add them in 2022!

  • NEW SHOW SUBSIDY MANAGER

Danna Jeanine (aka D.j.) Sims Klein has volunteered, and USMMA President Jeff Bosley has accepted her help. D.j will be replacing Jeff as the USMMA Show Subsidy Manager. We will be updating the website with the new programs being planned for 2022 shortly. And she will oversee the expansion of the USMMA show kit to include displays and materials for every region, rolled out over time.

To apply for a show subsidy award under the old program, visit this website page.

D.j. is an experienced horse trainer and instructor with more than 14 years of personal experience riding horses of all breeds, but primarily specializing in 2 breeds:  Warmbloods and Brazilian Mangalarga Marchadors.  In 2016 and 2017, D.j. traveled to Brazil to ride and learn more about the Mangalarga Marchador. Equine Studies degree, horse clinics and internships have rounded out every aspect of horse training and care.   Her skills and creativity show best when she is training young riders.

D.j. has shown extensively in jumping and working equitation and has run several shows and clinics. In 2014, she was the second  place rider in Arizona’s Hunter/Jumper Association. . And in 2020, she was the high point Mangalarga Marchador winner in Working Equitation Level 2.

Please welcome D.j. in her new role. 623-414-1774 or djsims2421@gmail.com

  • MM Breed Awards

    AERC – Endurance

    ETS – Equine Trail Sports

    USAWE – Working Equitation

We are in the process of setting up performance awards and recognition for Mangalarga Marchadors.

Most Awards are Designed to be Year-End Awards with awards given for high mileage, high points or whatever measure the organization uses to categorize the events.   The different organizations will report to us which horses placed the highest.   In order to be eligible, the horse must be a USMMA registered Marchador and the owner must be a USMMA member.

For the year-end awards, there will be a ribbon awarded along with some M Brand logo’d prize chosen by the USMMA Board each year.

Along those lines, we have designed a ribbon that can be awarded at shows or at the year end.   It is the bigger middle ribbon in the photo.   Colors are the Brazilian flag colors and the words say USMMA BEST OF BREED.     It’s impressive!

If anyone wants to add another sport organization to our list, we would be happy to add more!

  • New Website in Development

Dana Johnsen, Regional Director – Canada took on the task of re-thinking and creating a new platform for our association website. The USMMA Board and Website Committee have helped some, but we would like to accelerate the timeline. SO, while the site is still in development and testing, the best way to test is to let you go look at it!

We would appreciate your feedback to the USMMA email – usmmarchador@gmail.com

Some of the new features include:

    • more visually appealing
    • more automation – for collection contact information, for billing, membership renewals etc. Members can initiate all business with the USMMA.
    • photo and document libraries using Google.
    • on-line store selling M brand merchandise.
    • better integration with social media.

Here is the link to the new site! https://north-american-mangalarga-marchador-assoc.myshopify.com/

Be sure to take a test drive and let us know what you think. If you find any errors, please write them up. If you want something added, please let us know what that is. If you try out a form, let us know if it was clear. Thanks so much!!
